While some might agree that celebrity gossip magazines help fuel girls’ needs to self survey their bodies as a result of the critical comments made about female bodies, we also have to understand why women buy into this “direct” type of body bashing. Perhaps women are seeking the truth behind the lighting, makeup, plastic surgery and Photoshop. The “real” celebrity photographs (often modified to make celebrities look worse than normal) take away the glamour and the ideal and give us a glimpse of their more “natural” looks. This explains that our inner most desire in regards to celebrity and ideal images is to expose the truth behind natural female bodies.
The problem with these type of magazines is that although they highlight the “realness” of celebrities and models they depict their “realness” as problematic and in a negative light.
