She says " There’s so much pressure on new moms — especially who are in the public eye — to get back into shape as soon as possible which translates to, ‘As soon as possible, look like you were never pregnant or had a baby.’”
It's not fair that women have to face this type of pressure after doing one of the most amazing and hardest things most women can do. Which is giving birth! What we have to remember is that every female body is different and make up of different genes, some women will be wearing their pre-maternity jeans the next day but most women need to take time to get back to their pre-baby body. In fact, most women never fully return to that body and why should they have to? They just gave birth to a human life! The media has become obsessed with celebrity post pregnancies and it's a little ridiculous. Why can't the media embrace post pregnancy bodies for what they are instead of digitally manipulating images and obsessing about each pound that is lost? Hillary Scott explains to People that “The women who get there the fastest are celebrated like it’s an accomplishment. I think that is so wrong and sends such a bad message to young women.” It absolutely does! There are so many more important things to think about after having a baby....like starting a new routine, mental and physical health of the baby and mom, and you know enjoying the new life that was just created!
I am so proud that Hillary is speaking out about this issue because it affects all women! The message should not be about how fast women can bounce back to their pre-baby bodies, it should be on embracing the changes and learning to love them scars and all. Hillary explains that the "pressure really forced me to take a deep breath and accept and embrace me for me, which is always a work in progress, but more important now that I have a daughter." So mommies remember to focus on you and your baby and nothing else!
