In a recent interview, Jennifer Lawrence was asked by a fan about the pressure to look a certain way and her responses were once again inspiring! Her initial response was "Well, screw them." Haha.
She went on to say “What are you going to do? Be hungry every single day to make other people happy? That’s just dumb. There are shows like ‘The Fashion Police’ that are just showing these generations of young people to judge people based on all the wrong values and that it’s OK to point at people and call them ugly or fat. They call it ‘fun’ and they say ‘welcome to the real world’ – and that shouldn’t be the real world, it’s going to continue being the real world if we keep it that way. We have to stop treating each other like that and stop calling each other fat and stop these unrealistic expectations for women.”
Joan Rivers who is one of the "acts" on Fashion police responded via twitter that "It's funny how Jennifer Lawrence loved @E_FashionPolice during Awards Season when we were complimenting her every single week, but now that she has a movie to promote, suddenly we're picking on all those poor, helpless actors." She also wrote "WAIT! It just dawned on me why Jennifer Lawrence fell on her way up to the stage to get her Oscar. She tripped over her own arrogance."
How is being confident and encouraging, arrogant? If that kind of statement is considered arrogant, well then we need more girls to be arrogant. It's one thing to say you don't like someone's outfit but it's another to call someone fat. The show Fashion Police should be more about fashion and less about policing bodies.
