Sports Illustrated: The 2016 Swimsuit Cover Edition featured three women with three different body types. Model Gailey Clauson, "Plus Size" Model Ashley Graham and Fighter Ronda Rousey. I would like to consider this another step in the right direction because I guess that if our society is going to continue to sexualize women's bodies, we might as well have them start to do this with real, Average bodies. Ronda Rousey was interviewed by Elle Magazine and explained that she was shocked and honoured to be chosen. Ronda told the magazine that she "grew up with a lot of body image issues - not just about my weight, but I would always see these perfect orb, domed boobs on television, and think, Mine don’t look like that." What do you think of the new covers? Do you think it is nice to see women with a variety of body types being featured?
Melissa McCarthy: This amazing lady was recently featured on the cover of Redbook Magazine and she was up to discussing negative body image. Melissa told the magazine that
"There's an epidemic in our country of girls and women feeling bad about themselves based on what .5 percent of the human race looks like...It starts very young. My message is that as long as everybody's healthy, enjoy and embrace whatever body type you have." Melissa, like any loving mother, wants to protect her daughters from these negative thoughts and she is walking the talk by making beautiful clothing for women who designers often fail to neglect. Melissa says that she wants to make women feel really good and we think that's very cool!
