I know that pop songs sung by stars like Britney generally don't have a lot of substance to their lyrics, they're meant to be fun and dance worthy! But the lyrics in Britney's latest song have got me worried about how it will be perceived by young girls. In fact, I see this song as simply a musical version of thinspiration because it's message is so blatant.
This is especially evident in the music video which shows Britney parading around in revealing clothing "showing off" her body. The message behind this song is that you need to work hard to "look hot in a bikini" or if you want to "live in a big mansion." Now this may be true for the few celebrities and pop stars who have been successful but what about us Average girls?
Not that I don't love the catchy beat of this song, I just wish that there were more fun songs like this with lyrics that inspire girls to love the body they've got and work hard for what really matters and what is realistic! Do you think that young girls will read far enough into the lyrics to see the negative body messages it's sending? Does the video alone achieve this?
On another note, Britney looks crazy photoshopped in the video...there is definitely something funky going on with her chin. Maybe the lyrics should be "You Wanna Hot Body...You Better Get Photoshop Bitch"
