Stop talking badly about fat people...it's not nice and it bugs me. Using fat as a derogatory term just makes you seem like a mean person! If you are one of those people that do this, remember that what you say is hurtful and it only means that you are a closed minded person. Point is...stop judging people based on their outward appearance. Everyone is allowed to indulge! The best diet, in my opinion, is moderation...and once in awhile you moderately have to stuff your face with whatever you want. Yes I can eat a whole pizza to myself, but it doesn't mean I do it everyday. I also would never blame a fat person for being fat. I just blame society for leading us to believe fat people are unhealthy people who do nothing but eat cheeseburgers! Other people's weight is none of your business. Stop your fatsplaining right now! (Fatsplaining = idea that fat is a lifestyle choice)
“The only thing that anyone can diagnose, with any certainty, by looking at a fat person, is their own level of stereotype and prejudice toward fat people.”—Marilyn Wann, “Fat Studies: an Invitation to Revolution”
Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect brings to light the type of stereotype fat people are often plagued with. Some would say that she portrays a character that we simply laugh at because of her fatness, but I have to disagree. I think the way Fat Amy comes across actually challenges these stereotypes by bringing obvious attention to the facts. We aren't laughing at Fat Amy, we are laughing with her because the jokes she makes about being fat are false. For example, Fat Amy tells her singing mates that "I would do anything for you guys, except for running, jogging or climbing stairs." Fat Amy clearly works it on stage so it's safe to say that she was quite capable of moving like any other body! Okay...so the media is not so ready for a leading fat character...but at least Fat Amy portrays someone who is confident, in touch with her sexuality and unashamed of who she is! What do you think about Fat Amy? Is she a body positive character or is she only being made out to be a funny fat person?
